Introduction to Project Management

What is project management, really? Who are project managers, and how do they work together in different business areas? You'll tackle these questions, while also walking through the big picture of Asana.

  • Demo: Asana plan types, use cases, and basic navigation

Assignment #1:

  1. Get familiar with Asana. Create an account in Asana and familiarize yourself with the interface. Add your profile details along with a photo.
  2. Review the Managing Projects article on Asana in order to best plan how to manage your organization in the future.
  3. In class, we discussed the biggest change in the Project Management industry being a shift from processed-based approaches to principle-based approaches. Please use your PMBOK®to identify the new 12 Project Delivery Principles, according to the PMI.

Project Lifecycle

No matter the project type, there are a few methodologies and tools you can apply for effective work. You'll learn what these are, how to apply them, and about the variables within an organization that can impact your approach, as well.

  2. Previously we spoke about the ā€œsphere of influenceā€ project managers have. Please create your own sphere of influence based on the case study or real-life project you have chosen. You can make up roles as needed.

Agile Project Management

This class zooms in on the differences between traditional project management and Agile project management. You'll go deep into the Agile methodology and learn how to use Asana to implement Agile techniques.

  2. Create a cadence for your team to follow, including meeting agendas, stakeholder enсounters, and how you plan to estimate your team’s time.

Rhiannon will walk you through the ins and outs of a project charter. Then you'll learn how to use Asana as a one-stop-shop to document and showcase your charter, as well as to manage aspects of a project like resources, tasks, and stakeholders.
